Historical records give this cigar its profound sense of place. In 1565, Milanese merchant Girolamo Benzoni published History of the New World, documenting his travels through Nicaragua in the mid-16th century. His writings note that cigars were widely smoked in Nicaragua as early as 1541—not by the Spanish, but by native Nicaraguans and enslaved Ethiopians brought to the region.

These Ethiopian peoples, tracing lineage back to King Solomon and Menelik, became the first non-native smokers of Nicaraguan tobacco. The Wise Man draws directly from this powerful connection—linking over 3,000 years of wisdom with more than 450 years of Nicaraguan cigar culture. The tobaccos used are grown in the very soils where this ancient ritual first took hold, grounding every draw in history and meaning.
