In the late 1565, Girolamo Benzoni published his History of The New World. A Milanese merchant, he had spent 15 years in the New World as an interesting partisan; not a coloniser, but a merchant. In this book he notes that in 1541, cigars were widely smoked throughout Nicaragua – but not by the Spanish. The only peoples smoking Nicaraguan cigars were Nicaraguan natives and enslaved Ethiopians, brought to Nicaragua by the Spanish. This unparalleled account reveals something of an incredible nature – the Ethiopian peoples, the very blood of Solomon and of Menelik, were the first non-native peoples to smoke Nicaraguan tobacco.   As such, The Wise Man ties you to this journey through 3000 years of incredible wisdom, interwoven with Nicaraguan smoke for 450 years.
